Commitment
to the Word of God
Ps.119:105 “Thy
word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Naturally,
we need a lamp when it is dark to be able to see. In the same vein, we need a
lamp (the word of God) as we sojourn through the dark world of sin and trouble.
As we make
our New Year resolutions, how I wish we include commitment to the word of God.
We need to
commit ourselves to the study of the word of God.
We need to commit ourselves
to teaching and living the word of God.
When we do that, the word becomes a
lamp unto our feet and the murky waters of life will not overwhelm us.
2Tim.2:15 “Study
to shew thyself approved unto God…”
I wish that
we give ourselves to studying God’s word. No man sees God anywhere but he has
given us his word to guide us – so our commitment to the word determines our
success as believers.
Understanding
God’s word makes us live victoriously on earth and prepares us for eternity
with Christ.
2Pet. 3 “…
his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and
godliness, through the knowledge of him…”
Everything
you’ll need in your life is in you. Everything you’ll need to live a godly life
is in you. They were deposited in you at rebirth.
Lack of commitment
to the word is responsible for human misbehavior.
Listen, it’s
possible to acquire wealth without ritual murder. It’s possible to be a
millionaire without pushing drug.
It’s possible to be rich without
embezzlement.
When you allow God’s word to direct your decisions, you’ll prosper
righteously. He said “…seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Mt. 6:33)
Commitment
to the word will require us to deliberately create time for the word. Compare
the time we spend on our Smart phones per day and the time we read our Bibles.
Some Christians open their Bibles only on Sundays in the church. They have no time
to study the word. Some spend their time playing games, charting with friends
and browsing the internet. They have no time for the word of God.
Remember
that our approval depends on studying the word.
Commitment
to the word will require us to buy study Bibles. We need Bibles that have study
materials such as commentaries, concordance, interlinear, maps and dictionary.
In as much
as we appreciate the convenience that electronic gadgets afford, we should not
allow them to override our interest in studying the word. Rather, we should use
them as aids to study and evangelize the word.
Mastery of
God’s word is mastery of life issues. Make a plan to read the whole Bible in
the year 2014 and let it form part of your testimonies come January 2015. It
will reshape your life, increase your discipline and earn you an approval. May
the power that is in the word work in your lives.
We’ll
appreciate your comments.
